Communication Awareness
Description of course
This is a hands on, interactive session with the aim to ensure that communication is successfully given and received. From the first part of the day you will be given opportunities to evaluate your own communication style and become aware of the barriers that individual’s with a communication need may experience.
The second part is an awareness of many different types of Augmentative and Alternative Communication that individuals may employ with a chance to use and in doing so empathise and realise some of skills required, possible limitations and explore some strategies that can support and ensure successful communication.
Who is it for?
Social Care staff who may be supporting or interacting with individuals who have additional communication needs and use or may use augmentative and alternative methods of communication.
What will I learn?

You will have a greater awareness of the augmentative and alternative communication methods used by individuals who may have additional communication needs

Be more aware of the impact of your own communication when working with individuals and therefore communicate more effectively with people who use our services
