Valentine's Day Blog
“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of others.”
Today is Valentine’s day, when many of us will take some time to pause and show our appreciation of love, and what it might mean to us. Regardless of the foil-wrapped hearts and overpriced flowers, it is a day which reminds us to celebrate love.
Sometimes it can be hard to remember this love when we are bowed under routines, difficult decisions and challenges which face us every day. As we might have expectations on Valentine’s day from our other half, we often have even greater expectations of ourselves, and what we would like to achieve for others. We focus on person-centred care, which in a way supports one definition of love as being ‘deeply connected and connected to someone or something’ when we plan and work towards better outcomes.
Sometimes, our tasks can feel as frustrating and consuming as unrequited love, when barriers and systems can keep us apart from where we would like to be. But it is the connection with what we do, and a natural balance amongst us and a relationship of give and take that keeps us on the path towards making the difference; lightening the burden of others in need.
At the heart of the work in our teams is a community of kindness, connection and love for helping others. It’s what we do around here. Happy Valentine’s day.
