What Matters to You? - Meet the Team

We wanted to take the time to introduce ourselves, we are....

Moyra Gill

Hiya, I'm Moyra and what matters to me is the wonderful people who touch my life, my faith, being out and about in nature (land or sea) and making a difference. I work in Learning & Development and I enjoy creating environments that enable people to flourish. My work means that I get to work with so many amazing and inspirational people across P&K. I love being part of the WMTYPK collaboration team and I'm so excited to work with you all to develop even more opportunities around person centred care and support, kindness and "what matters to you?

I became involved in the “What matters to you?” movement right at the start. It really felt important to me that staff heard the thanks that Tommy’s gives in his talk and I recognised the importance for staff having the right space to reflect on what really matters to them?

Inclusion is extremely important to me and I believe the best work is achieved by many people sharing the workload. It matters to me that staff have a balance with work and their own lives. If I can help teams reflect or work differently to achieve this I will. It really matters to me that staff are recognised for the great work they do every single day.

Tommy Whitelaw

Hi, I’m Tommy, I am the National Lead for Person Centred Voices, Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE). For five years I was a full-time carer for my late mother Joan who had Vascular Dementia. In 2011 I undertook a walk around Scotland’s towns and cities to collect hundreds of life stories and letters detailing the experiences of individuals who care for a loved one living with dementia. I took this collection of stories to the Scottish Parliament to raise awareness of the value of carers, providing a platform for people to share their experiences and highlight what is needed to better support carers in Scotland.

Since then, I have been delivering frequent talks to health and social care professionals, students and carer organisations across the UK ,Europe and North America promoting the values and principles of ‘What Matters to You?’, ‘Intelligent Kindness’ and ‘Civility Saves Lives’ – movements that identify active listening, kindness, and person centredness as key to providing inclusive support and care to all individuals, as well as healthy work environments.

Dave Henderson

I’m Dave, I have been involved with “What matters to you?”  since the summer when P&K HSCP invited colleagues from the Independent and 3rd sector to hear Tommy’s story. No matter how big or small  the role we play in the health and social care sector , ALL our roles are important! At the end of the day it’s all about helping other people despite the challenging circumstances we all face.

WMTM outwith spending time with family and friends, is exercise…..My happy place is getting the tunes on whilst being at the gym or out running. Where I can clear my head and recharge my own batteries!

Eva Marwick

Hi, I’m Eva and I work in a small project management team in PKHSCP. I also support the What Matters To You team.

It matters to me to work in a nice place where people care, and it’s important to me that my work has a clear purpose. I have met many inspirational and dedicated people who work tirelessly and with so much passion to provide truly person-centred care to people of Perth & Kinross. I have learned from staff that what matters to them is to be treated with respect and kindness, to be listened to and seen as a person, not just a member of staff.

That’s why it’s so good to share with others what is important to us outside of work too, even if it’s just the “little” things like sunshine, family, pets, hobbies and good food (all the things I like too!).

I hope that my contribution to WMTY work, however small, helps to make PKHSCP even a better place to work.

Geraldine Knight

What matters to me is respect, fairness and equality.

I believe that everyone has voice and we all have the right to be heard, I am incredibly lucky to be able to work in a role which is central within an organisation that embraces a culture of listening to the voice of those on a care journey, openly demonstrating how they make people feel valued, and listened to.

Outwith work, what matters to me, is without a doubt my family, friends, my beautiful wee dog and never a day goes by without listening to music.

Rachel Comrie

Hi, my name is Rachel Comrie. I work within Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership, Learning and Development Section.

I have had the privilege to attend and support What Matters To You within Perth and Kinross, attending locality events, supporting sessions both face to face and online.

I have met so many interesting, inspiring people with lots of enthusiasm and ideas on our What Matters To You journey.

I believe in kind, compassionate workplaces and person- centred care.  I promote lifelong learning and encourage conversations about what matters.

I have worked within the learning and development field for many years across various sectors.

I love spending time with my family and pets; walks in my wellies through the fields with my family and dogs. I believe in treating others as you like to be treated and being kind.

Looking forward to finding out what matters to you and supporting opportunities.

Robin Kinnear

Hi, my name is Robin and what matters to me is my family, my dogs, spending time with my friends, and all things entertainment (Film,TV and Music). I have been involved with WMTY since towards the end of 2022 from a marketing perspective attending all of these wonderful events and capturing images/data to share with the wider public. Seeing these amazing people at the events and hearing Tommy's story has been such a rewarding experience and it is a privilege to share all of this with everyone. I can't encourage you enough to engage with this work and see how it can impact your workplace.
