Here we aim to bring you  a range of learning opportunities in relation to Suicide Prevention. 

Suicide is everyone's business and we believe that talking openly about Suicide saves lives, click on the video below to watch the United to Prevent Suicide   'Talking Saves Lives' 

 

Suicide Prevention is part of a wider protecting people agenda in Perth & Kinross. This agenda includes areas such as, Adult Support and Protection, Gender Based Violence, Child Protection, Trauma Informed Practice, Mental Health and Wellbeing and Substance use.

Here you will find a range of online learning opportunities, please read the joining instructions and click the link.  

 

Mental Health Improvement, Self-Harm and Suicide Prevention Awareness Raising Animations

These animations have been produced to support the implementation of Scotland’s Public Health Priorities for Mental Health, Scotland’s Mental Health Strategy 2017-2027; and Scotland’s Suicide Prevention Action Plan – Every Life Matters. They cover the areas of mental wellbeing, suicide prevention and having compassionate conversations with people who are experiencing mental distress or may be feeling suicidal. They are designed to support learning at the Informed Level of Scotland’s Knowledge and Skills Framework for Mental Health Improvement, Self-Harm and Suicide Prevention. While each animation can be viewed on its own, we recommended all 3 are completed. There is a short quiz after the videos to review what you have learned.

COVID-19 Psychological First Aid

Psychological First Aid (PFA) is a humane, supportive and flexible response to people who are in distress or suffering during and after crises or emergencies like the current COVID-19 pandemic. It is designed to support anyone who is delivering health or social care to deliver effective PFA throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and will discuss how the pandemic may affect us, how to deliver effective PFA, how to adapt PFA to the needs of vulnerable groups and how to take care of yourself while providing PFA

Zero Suicide Alliance Training 

This learning contains three modules which provide a better understanding of the signs to look out for in someone who may be struggling with suicidal feelings. The ‘Step Up’ module gives a brief introduction to social isolation and how to help someone who may be isolated, taking into account the significant changes that society has undergone recently. The ‘Gateway’ module is a brief introduction to awareness. The ‘Suicide Awareness Training’ is a more in-depth suicide awareness training session which aims to deliver the skills and confidence to help someone who may be considering suicide. The modules include voiceovers; closed captions are available.

Approximately one hour to complete all modules

You do not need to make an account to access this resource, although there will be some questions at the start regarding your demographics and location, and profession.

 Mentally Healthy Workplaces Training

This training has been designed to increase awareness of mental health in the workplace. While this course was developed before the COVID-19 pandemic it remains valuable for understanding mental health and supporting positive mental health. It provides an overview of mental health and mental health problems and information about the impact of stress in the workplace, the laws supporting mental health at work and the benefits of a workplace that supports our own and our colleagues mental health

Mental Health and Suicide Prevention  Face to Face Training Programme 

Here you will find a range of dates to attend face to face learning opportunities, please read the joining instructions and click the link.

 

 

 

Scotland's Mental Health First Aid 

 Course Information:

  • 12- hour standard Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA) Course
  • Course topics include; attitudes to mental health issues, the recovery message, the impact of alcohol and drugs on mental health, introduction to suicide intervention, listening skills, understanding depression, understanding anxiety, and understanding psychosis
  • Participants receive a copy of the SMHFA manual
  • Participants completing the course are eligible to become and accredited Mental Health First Aider

 

Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of a mental health problem, or in a mental health crisis.  The first aid is given until the appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

 

Tuesday 12 & Thursday 14 September 2023  (both days to be attended)

 Suicide Intervention and Prevention Programme and Safety Plan Training

These are two half day learning sessions that have been linked together to offer a one full day learning experience. 

Anyone in the community or workplace can be required to support someone with thoughts of suicide. This training will provide you with the knowledge and skills to help to recognise risks, the ability to ask about suicide and be able to help keep someone safe.

Suicide Intervention & Prevention Programme

 

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)

The ASIST Course is free to participants to help build suicide safer communities by upskilling practitioners. ASIST is delivered over 2 days and will be facilitated by experienced ASIST Trainers. Each workshop shares many core features that make up the Living Works
