Description of the course

We are delighted to be working with Perth Autism to bring you 2 courses.

"Our courses offer a sustainable and empowering approach for staff across many areas. The sessions are powerful in nature and although there is an element of understanding Autism as a condition, we know that many of our colleagues are keen to learn to put this into practice. The courses focus on the most recent research in Autism, our current thinking, understanding, approach of best practice and to ensure a strengths-based approach.

The learning follows a three part theory - practice - evaluate approach" Perth Autism

The 1st of these is and the course runs over 3 separate sessions:

'Practical understanding of Autism'

Session 1 - Theory - We explore Autism as a condition, our current thinking and approach and to start to think about some of the strengths and differences of people with Autism.

Session 2 - Practice - Building on our theory from session 1, we start to think about how we move our knowledge into practice and how to best use our understanding of Autism when supporting people.

Session 3 - Evaluation - A chance to consolidate our learning to think about how we will practically implement change on our environments. We explore some of the potential barriers to implementing change and have an opportunity for general discussion and Q&A with our facilitators.

Supporting Anxiety

This programme is about learning to support people with anxiety. Although this is appropriate for people with Autism, these skills can be used generally when supporting anxiety.

Session 1 - Theory - What is anxiety? What happens to us all when we start to get anxious and how do we respond to anxiety?

Session 2 - Practice - Building on our knowledge in session 1 we start to think about how we move our knowledge into practice and how this might work in everyday settings.

Session 3 - Evaluation - A change to consolidate our learning to think about how we practically implement change in our settings. We explore some of the potential barriers to implementing positive change and have an opportunity for some general discussions and Q&A with our facilitators.

Testimonials

Thoroughly enjoyed the training and variety of people attending it. Made me think outside the box as they say and I have already recommended to colleagues to put forward for next intake(s). Many thanks found all the presentations useful.

Really helpful training that has added a lot to my thinking about my practice.

This training was so valuable to me, and I would like to build on this in anyway I can.... Really understanding ASD, will only enhance my practice. Thank you to you both. Most meaningful training I have been on for a long time.

The training was interesting and helpful. Both facilitators were knowledgeable and easy to listen to. The information was delivered in an easy to understand format that appears to work well. Thank you :)
