An Introduction to Vascular Health and Stroke (PKC Staff Only)

Description of Course: This training course was developed by the Stroke Association – the UK’s leading Stroke charity, and funded by the Scottish Government.

This course aims to improve knowledge and skills to support the prevention of stroke and related vascular conditions. It also aims to develop understanding on the impact of these conditions on Stroke survivors and their families.

This is an introductory training session which covers 4 main areas of discussion.

  • What is Vascular Disease and what is a Stroke?
  • Stroke Risk Factors and Prevention
  • The Impact of Stroke
  • Information about the Stroke Association

Who is it for?

For anyone wishing to improve their knowledge and understanding on Stroke and Vascular conditions. This would be particularly beneficial to staff that work in social care and are involved with supporting people that have been affected by Stroke.

What will I learn?

  • To be clear what stroke and TIA are
  • To know the signs and symptoms of a stroke/TIA
  • To have an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the brain in relation to the effects of stroke
  • What can be done to prevent stroke and related vascular disease
  • The effects of stroke and how the stroke association can help
